ID3Cleanup is a free utility which can clean tags in your MP3 files. Many problems people have with tags are due to corrupted files. This program will clean up a variety of problems we have seen - just run it on a file and it will make any changes necessary. You can also run it on a directory to recursively clean all files contained within that directory and all subdirectories.

OPTIONS:
-help, -? Display this help and exit.
-test Check if m3u files need cleanup.

-absolute Convert to absolute paths (opposite of -relative)
-relative Convert to relative paths (opposite of -absolute)
-short Convert to 8.3 style filenames (opposite of -long)

-absolute/-relative will convert all the files to absolute or relative path names. The relative path names may be relative to the mounted drive, or the m3u file.

-short/-long will convert all the files to short or long form.

You should be able to combine the above options, (e.g. -relative -short).

AACTagReader is a free utility which can sometimes repair tags in your AAC files.

Current version: 0.2

Downloads

29 Sep 2006 AACTagReader.exe Windows
29 Sep 2006 AACTagReader.tgz Linux (tarred and gzipped)
29 Sep 2006 AACTagReaderOSX.gz MAC OS X (gzipped)

Warning: The -fix option cannot repair all problems. We suggest backing up your files before making any changes.

Some products (in particular the iPod Shuffle and Airport Express) are rather picky about how the tags are stored in your AAC files. If you have AAC files which do not play properly, you may be able to use the -fix option in AACTagReader to restore the header to a clean state. You must run this tool from the command line, like this:

AACTagReader -fix filename.m4a

Another tool which may be useful is AtomicParsely. Something like the following may work for you:

AtomicParsley /pathtoaacfile -F -W
